Why Remote User Testing?

Wish you could hear what your users think about your Web site or application, but don’t have the time or budget to visit them?  Do your surveys fail to gather the qualitative information you need to make accurate design decisions?  If you answered “yes,” then you could benefit from remote user testing.

What is Remote User Testing?

Remote user testing allows you to connect with geographically dispersed users over the Internet, and solicit feedback from them that would otherwise be difficult to obtain, about a Web site or application.

TechSmith’s UserVue is designed to make remote user testing as simple as possible, while at the same time enabling you to gather the information you need to improve your Web site or application. UserVue will allow your organization to instantly maximize the benefits associated with remote user testing.

Benefits of Remote User Testing

  • Reduced costs associated with travel, facilities and compensation.
  • Larger, and geographically broader, sampling of users.
  • Easier for users to complete specified tasks without leaving their homes/offices.
  • Easier to recruit qualified users to participate.
  • Increased feedback from users.

Limitations of Remote User Testing

  • No visual interaction with the participant (i.e., facial or bodily expressions).
  • No control over the participant’s environment.

Remote Testing Provides Honest, Detailed Feedback

Participant answers can vary depending on their distance from the test facilitator. In one qualitative study, remote participants answered in greater detail and length, and with greater honesty, than participants who were face-to-face with the interviewer.
