Observer Features
Easy network connection
Connect Observer to Recorder via a LAN/WAN (including wireless), a Virtual Private Network (VPN), or a broadband connection.
Remote observation
One or multiple Observer stations can simultaneously connect to Recorder. Observers can view screen video, user video (picture-in-picture), and audio streams, automatically synchronized.
Marker definitions display
Marker type, color, and definition are displayed for all Observers in a floating window. Observers simply click to select a marker type from the list.
Participant picture-in-picture window
Observers can see the participant in a PIP window during the session. The PIP window can be moved and resized.
Immediate playback
Observers can record a digital video file (WMV) of content displayed, which can be immediately viewed and shared after the recording session.
Customized text notes
Observers can add text notes to the markers and tasks they set. Notes from all Observers are saved and synchronized with the recording.
Ongoing, editable log of tasks and notes
Observers can view a running list of all of the markers they set during a test, and go back and edit them on-the-fly. The marker scoring system lets Observers indicate the severity of errors during the test. Based on this information, Manager automatically calculates a severity rate.
Designated task logger
One Observer specified as task logger in the study configuration can enter tasks during recording. The name of the task logger is displayed for all Observers.
Exporting Marker Log
At the end of a session, marker logs can now be exported and shared as a .txt file. Easy to use with documents and spreadsheets!
Observer Benefits
Turn Any Office, Anywhere into an Observation Room
Collaboratively observe and log sessions from across the hall or across the country with streaming technology. By connecting Observer to Recorder over a network, team members can watch live tests without traveling to an observation room. They can see user's screen activity and facial expressions, as well as hear what the user is saying, all streamed live. This kind of collaborative observation increases understanding among team members.
Never Miss an Important Moment
Get richer insight through the eyes of your entire team. Each Observer can use notes to identify important moments – such as user comments, frustration, design problems, areas where the user gets stuck, and more – as they happen. Notes can also be used to share individual perspectives and solutions. All notes are consolidated with the video. One-click access to notes makes it easy to instantly revisit them without scanning through the entire video.
Edit Notes during the Recording
With Observer’s log, you can view a running list of all of the notes you enter during a test. Edit them, add more detail, and fix mistakes, on-the-fly. Also, the built-in scoring system lets you indicate the severity of errors during the test. Morae uses these scores to automatically calculate a severity rate for you.
Easily Segment Tasks in Real-Time
Using the task definitions you entered in Recorder, a designated Observer can log participant tasks and indicate task error rate. During the session, the current task is displayed for all Observers, so they know which task the participant is completing. Tasks are automatically created in Manager for quick review, editing and analysis. With logged tasks you can automatically measure time on task, success rate and more.
Immediately View and Share Session Videos
You can record a local video copy of the session exactly as it was displayed in Observer, so you can share the session with clients and team members immediately afterward. Because the video is saved in WMV format, it can be viewed on the Observer computer or on any other computer that has Windows Media Player installed.
Start and Stop Recorder without Disturbing the Participant
One designated Observer can remotely start and stop the recording from a remote location. Remotely controlling Recorder is ideal when there isn’t anyone in the room with the participant, or when you want to minimize activity that might disturb the participant.
Exporting Marker Log
At the end of a session, marker logs can now be exported and shared as a .txt file. Easy to use with documents and spreadsheets!
