Morae Usability Testing
Spotlight on Rob Tannen, Electronic Ink
“With Morae, I get a quick set up and production time compared to a traditional video system - there are less moving parts and wires.” -Rob Tannen, Director of Human Factors, Electronic Ink Electronic Ink is using Morae in a way unlike anything we've seen before – in a moving vehicle. Rob Tannen, PhD, is Director of Human Factors at Electronic Ink, where they have been using Morae to do usability research for over a year. Based in Philadelphia, PA, Electronic Ink is a digital design firm that helps clients improve the design and usability of software applications and enterprise software. Electronic Ink is working with ALK Technologies, which produces CoPilot GPS Satellite Navigation software that runs on Smart Phones and Pocket PCs. Their project involved usability testing in the usability lab, as well as performing in-car observation of the navigation systems that run on these devices. Usability testing took place in Philadelphia and London.
“We needed a system that could capture handheld or phone screens in real-time, could be easily set up in a vehicle without customization, and could travel well. Morae met all of these requirements,” Tannen stated. Tannen pointed out that since Morae could capture anything on a computer screen, and was fast, it made it a very easy choice. Plus, the output files were completely portable. He explained, “With Morae, I get a quick set up and production time compared to a traditional video system - there are less moving parts and wires.” Not only is it Morae the best solution for field testing, it's the best solution for testing at 60 miles per hour. “Space is important when you're testing inside a Honda Civic hatchback,” he finished.
