TechSmith Introduces SnagIt 6.3 with Enhanced Accessibility and Advanced Image Effects for Publishing, Documentation and Content Creation

New Version Allows Users to Grab Editable Text from Broad Range of Applications; Offers Toolbar Add-In for Excel, Sophisticated Special Effects for Editing

Okemos, Michigan - July 23, 2003 - TechSmith Corp., the world's leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions for consumers and business professionals, today announced the availability of SnagIt 6.3 with enhancements that make capturing, editing, and adding graphics files and editable text to documents even more convenient.

Publishing, documentation and marketing professionals can now capture any image from their desktops and use SnagIt's custom edge effects to add an artistic look that is typically only available to users of sophisticated graphics software. SnagIt's edge effects include torn, faded or wave styles as well as the ability to add custom frames and drop shadows. The edge effects can be applied as a filter before or after a user captures an image, or as a batch process that can treat many images simultaneously.

"Millions of SnagIt users can now dress up their screenshots and create their own professional images at a fraction of the cost they have been forced to bear in the past," said Tony Dunckel, SnagIt Product Marketing Manager at TechSmith. "We've also added an Excel toolbar add-in and greatly expanded the number of applications from which users can capture editable text. These productivity enhancements enable office professionals to accomplish countless everyday tasks with SnagIt."

Upon installation, users have the option to place a SnagIt add-in to the toolbar of Microsoft Excel, expanding on the existing add-ins available for Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe FrameMaker. The new add-in for Excel provides fast, convenient access to SnagIt's most popular features, and addresses one of the most common Excel tasks: quickly inserting tabular data (e.g., columnar lists, graphical charts, financial reports, bibliographic information) into spreadsheets for reports and presentations.

The SnagIt add-in for Excel also allows users to take screen captures instantly from within Excel, including a window, spreadsheet, object, chart or text. The screen captures can be sent to files, clipboards, printers, or e-mail. The SnagIt add-in can be configured with pre-set input and output options to enable true one-click screen captures.

Among the graphic file formats that SnagIt now supports for reading and writing include: Windows Icon (ICO), Enhanced Metafile (EMF), Windows Metafile (WMF), Encapsulated Postscript (EPS), Adobe Photoshop 3.0 (PSD), LeadTools (CMP), CCITT Fax (FAX), Macintosh Picture (PCT), GEM Image (IMG), WinFax (WFX), WordPerfect (WPG), SUN Raster (RAS), Microsoft Paint (MSP), IBM IOCA [RAW] (RAW), IBM IOCA [Wrapped] (ICA), CALS (CAL).

SnagIt is the most popular screen capture utility in the world with more than seven million users. Among the most common professional uses for SnagIt are documentation, employee and customer training, technical support, classroom teaching and distance learning, Web development, publishing, software design, and the creation of sales and marketing materials.

SnagIt 6.3 supports Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. SnagIt 6.3 can be downloaded immediately at www.techsmith.com. The suggested retail price is $39.95 for a single license. Free, 30-day trial licenses are also available.
