TechSmith Introduces Camtasia 2.2 for Simplified, Business-Class Multimedia Screen Recording and Production

Industry-Leading Software Suite Strengthens Computer-Based Training, Distance Learning, Technical Support, Demonstrations

East Lansing, Michigan, June 21, 2001 -- TechSmith Corp., the leading provider of screen capture technology since 1990, today announced the release of Camtasia 2.2, a software suite for corporate users that captures on-screen activity and enables the fast, simple creation of multimedia tools for customer support, employee training, sales presentations, and any business function that can be enhanced through the use of video demonstrations.

"Customer support and distributed workforce collaboration are just two examples of core business activities that can be extremely expensive and unnecessarily time consuming," said William Hamilton, chief executive officer of TechSmith. "Camtasia is a powerful utility that improves the effectiveness of communication and raises organizational productivity. The net result is that problems get resolved quicker, confusion can be avoided, and jobs get done in a more timely, efficient manner."

The Camtasia suite includes all the tools required to record on-screen activity, such as cursor movements, menu selections, pop-up windows and typing. It can then be used to edit and narrate the recordings, and publish the output using industry standard formats. The software allows users to incorporate other AVIs into their videos, and Camtasia productions can be viewed with Windows Media Player and RealNetworks RealPlayer. The files can also be broadcast over the Internet, or distributed via e-mail.

"Camtasia has taken the extremely taxing process of communicating technical jargon and turned it into a very simple exercise," said Michael Bryant, director of training and consulting at Sonic Foundry. "Camtasia delivers full-motion screen capture with high resolution, clear text and graphics, and true colors. With Camtasia, we are able to develop computer-based training modules to educate our staff, dealers, representatives and end users. Our call centers can maintain libraries of videos to answer common inquiries. And our worldwide sales force can run quick demos that highlight the most important capabilities of our products."

Some of the newest features in Camtasia 2.2 are ScreenPad annotations that make it very easy to add and change video captions; Camtasia Player for convenient AVI viewing by users who don't have access to Windows Media Player or RealPlayer; and ScreenDraw that gives users the ability to draw freehand on their videos in similar fashion to a sportscaster drawing on screen to explain instant replays.

Camtasia 2.2 also delivers tremendous performance improvements in the Microsoft Windows 2000 environment. With point-and-click modifications to Windows 2000 settings, Camtasia users will realize as much as a 10-fold increase in the frame-capture rate, making Camtasia recordings more fluid than was previously possible. No other product is able to leverage Windows 2000 to improve its frame capture to this extent.

Other new features include animated GIF output, the ability to add still images to Camtasia videos, and a recovery tool to protect works in progress. The Camtasia 2.2 suite includes Camtasia Recorder, Camtasia Producer, DubIt, and Camtasia Player.

System Requirements and Availability
Camtasia 2.2 supports Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows ME. The software is available immediately with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $149.95. Fully functional trial software is available at no charge at http://www.techsmith.com.
