Breakthrough Technology Added to SnagIt® Screen Capture Tool

TechSmith® Adds Object Capture To Its List of Industry Firsts

East Lansing, Michigan, September 25, 2000 - TechSmith Corporation, the leader in screen capture technology since 1990, announces breakthrough technology with SnagIt's new Object Capture feature. Using their intimate knowledge of the Windows desktop, TechSmith engineers have added more control over capturing individual objects such as taskbar buttons, menu items and Web page elements. This allows users to capture a targeted area, rather than an entire window or screen. For example, technical writers or software documentation pros can use Object Capture to zero in on specific menu items. Webmasters can use the feature to save small buttons or graphics off Web pages for later use. You can even use Object Capture to grab stock ticker information off the Web.

"We continually try to add features that will make life easier for our end users," says William Hamilton, president of TechSmith Corp. "With Object Capture, you can easily capture screen objects or chunks of text, without having to grab the entire screen then trim and crop to get the part meant to be captured. This saves a great deal of time."

Additional enhancements to SnagIt 5.1 include increased support for text capture, custom watermark capabilities and program file capture for grabbing bitmaps and icons from EXE or DLL files. The new release also includes batch processing filters, which apply advanced image editing filters to multiple captures in batch processing mode.

These new features are the latest in a long line of innovations. TechSmith first introduced Windows screen capture to the world 10 years ago and was the first to develop valuable technology such as:

  • AutoScroll - the ability to capture vertically scrolling windows as a single image, such as Web pages and Excel Spreadsheets.
  • DDE Support - allowing SnagIt to integrate seamlessly with other applications.
  • Text Capture - moving screen capture beyond image file formats. Text capture enables plain ASCII text to be extracted from any application displayed on the screen, even when the Windows Cut and Paste functions are not available.

SnagIt is designed for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000. Manufacturers suggested retail price is $39.95, including free upgrades to the next two major releases. Multiple and site licensing are available.
